Rudy Reynon II — known professionally as Ru AREYOU — has spent his entire life at the intersection of martial arts, movement, and performance. His story starts at age 3, when his grandpa would take him to the 99-cent store to rent martial arts VHS films — Bruce Lee among them. That spark never went out.
Born in Sacramento, California, Rudy Reynon II began training in martial arts at age four under the guidance of his father. By age eight he had earned his second-degree black belt — a credential that would have been remarkable for a teenager, let alone a child.
In those early years, Ru trained under renowned sport karate coach Jon Valera — a foundational relationship that sharpened his technique and competitive instincts before he ever stepped onto the NASKA circuit.
At nine, Ru entered NASKA — the North American Sport Karate Association, the premier competitive organization for sport karate in the world. In the early 2000s he joined Team Paul Mitchell, the world's top sport karate team, and competed under that banner for years — specializing in kamas and developing a style that blended precision, athleticism, and artistry.
His first kamas form was choreographed alongside his father and performed to music — a format he would go on to master and eventually build an entire curriculum around.

None of that is separate from the training. Ru's first kamas form was choreographed to music. Every competitive routine he ever built was built to a track — and he spent 11 years learning how to make a body, a weapon, and a song move as one thing.
That ear for music is baked into how he coaches. When Ru designs a form for a student, he's listening as much as he's watching — choosing music that fits their energy, structuring choreography around the peaks and breaks in a track, and training the student to feel timing rather than just count it. It's what separates a routine that scores from one that lands.

Ru brings everything he has learned into an open martial arts curriculum. Now accepting students for in-studio and online sessions.
Two decades of competing at the highest levels of sport karate, winning national titles on the NASKA circuit, capturing two ABDC championships, earning a Primetime Emmy for choreography, performing before millions on a global arena tour, and producing records for chart-topping artists — none of it happened in a vacuum. Every mat, every stage, every studio session built a depth of understanding that no single discipline can produce on its own. Ru brings all of it into the room. That's what separates his coaching: students don't just learn technique — they learn how to perform under pressure, move with intention, and compete like champions. The names below are what that experience creates.
